President Joe Biden is presenting the National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation at a ceremony in the White House.

The award ceremony is expected to begin at 11:30 a.m. EDT from the East Room of the executive mansion.

The National Medal of Science was established by an act of Congress in 1959 and was first awarded in 1963. It is the “highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers,” according to the National Science Foundation.

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation was established by an act of Congress in 1980 and was first awarded in 1983. This medal is considered the highest national honor for technological achievement.
