WATCH LIVE: President Trump Holds Rose Garden Club Lunch with GOP Senators Amid Fourth Week of Government Shutdown – 12 PM ET

White House Rose Garden Club

President Trump is hosting Republican Senators for a “Rose Garden Club Lunch” event at the newly renovated White House Rose Garden as the government shutdown begins its fourth week.

Democrats in the Senate closed the government on October 1 over a funding measure that did not meet their demands for $1.5 trillion in wasteful spending, including free healthcare for illegal aliens.

Even CNN is admitting that the Democrats are at fault for the shutdown, and America knows it, too. Trump’s approval rating actually increased by 1 point 20 days into the shutdown.

This is unlike Trump’s approval rating, which fell in 2019 after the more than one-month-long shutdown in his first term.

Now, Trump is seemingly gathering Republican Senators to find a deal that does not give in to the Democrats’ radical demands.

Details and the purpose of the lunch are still unclear, even to some lawmakers invited to the White House.

Per the Daily Signal:

“I have no idea,” Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., told The Daily Signal when asked what the purpose of it would be.

Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kans., who said he was not sure if he would go to the lunch, told The Daily Signal, “Look, he’s the greatest deal maker in the world, so I have a feeling that he’ll have to be involved in closing it.”

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., asked what could move the needle, said, “He’s the one’s going to move it.”

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said Trump would likely discuss strategies to end the shutdown, but that giving in to Democrats’ demands was off the table.

The event is scheduled to begin at 12 pm ET. President Trump will likely deliver remarks to the Republican senators and may take questions from the press.
