President Trump and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry are set to deliver remarks this afternoon at the White House and announce a massive manufacturing investment in the state of Louisiana.

Hyundai Motor Group, a South Korean auto manufacturer, is reportedly planning to bring more than a thousand new jobs to the state with a $5 billion steel mill.

Per Louisiana First News:

Gov. Jeff Landry is set to join President Donald Trump at the White House Monday afternoon for what’s being described as a major economic development announcement for Louisiana.

According to a report from The Advocate, Hyundai Motor Group is expected to announce plans for a $5 billion steel mill in Ascension Parish aimed at supplying its U.S. assembly plants. The new plant would reportedly create 1,500 full-time jobs.

The Advocate reports that the new facility would be built near Donaldsonville on land previously rezoned for industrial use, but Louisiana First News has not independently confirmed these details.

Gov. Landry’s office has yet to comment on the announcement’s specifics but stated he would join the president at the White House for what “promises to be a transformational moment for Louisiana.”

Earlier, Governor Landry also spoke about President Trump’s new executive order, signed Thursday, aimed at dismantling the Department of Education and returning control to states. Landry was in attendance as the President signed his order to “begin eliminating the federal Department of Education once and for all.”

Landry applauded President Trump’s move to eliminate the bureaucracy in DC and addressed fake news reports and lies from Democrats that this move would harm students.
