2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to make a “major announcement” at an event in Pennsylvania on Monday.
The event follows reports that Kennedy plans to switch from a Democratic challenge to President Joe Biden to an independent ticket for the 2024 presidential election. Biden continues to hold an over-50-point lead over Kennedy in primary polling.

In a video released last month, Kennedy said there is corruption “in the leadership of both political parties” and that he wants to “rewrite the assumptions and change the habits of American politics.” He has blasted the Democratic National Convention in recent months for not wanting a “real primary” and turning the rules and presidential primary schedule against him in favor of Biden.
Kennedy is a long-shot Democratic candidate but maintains favorability among Republicans for his stance on COVID-19 vaccines and other views shared among hard-line conservatives.

If he switches to running as an independent, Kennedy will join Cornel West in running as a third party in 2024. West switched his political campaign affiliation from the Green Party to independent on Oct. 5.
Kennedy’s event will begin at 11:45 a.m. on Monday.
