WATCH LIVE: Senate Finance Committee holds hearing to consider new Social Security administrator

The Senate Finance Committee is holding a hearing to consider former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) to be the new Social Security administrator.

The hearing is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Biden announced his intention to nominate O’Malley for the position on July 26, arguing that the former governor would defend Social Security.

“Governor O’Malley is a lifelong public servant who has spent his career making government more accessible and transparent, while keeping the American people at the heart of his work,” Biden said in a statement.

“As Mayor of Baltimore and Governor of Maryland, he adopted data and performance-driven technologies to tackle complex challenges facing the communities he served – and I saw the results firsthand when we worked together during my time as Vice President,” Biden continued. “As Governor, he made government work more effectively across his administration and enhanced the way millions of people accessed critical services.”
