White House press secretary Karine Jean Pierre and Shalanda Young, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, will hold a press briefing on Friday ahead of a possible government shutdown this weekend.
Congress is currently deadlocked on the fight to avoid a government shutdown that would go into effect Sunday, and House Republicans have been at odds since the summer, with a handful of holdouts refusing to send more aid to Ukraine while an immigration crisis unfolds at the United States’s southern border.

The Senate has advanced a continuing resolution that would see funding for the government through Nov. 17, 2023, if adopted by both chambers. However, the current plan does not include provisions on the border crisis.
The briefing is also the first since news of Sen. Dianne Feinstein‘s (D-CA) death was announced on Friday morning. She died Thursday night at the age of 90. Feinstein was the oldest member of Congress at the time of her death.
