An MSNBC hack made a critical mistake trying to show he knew more about economics than Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and got humiliated.

Bessent appeared on “Morning Joe” on Tuesday morning to discuss efforts to reopen the federal government and address the economic anxiety many Americans are experiencing. Of course, the TDS-suffering leftists on the show made every effort to embarrass the Treasury Secretary.

One co-host, Jonathan Lemire, attempted to ambush Bessent with a gotcha question at one point. The inquiry was designed to convey that the Trump Administration was prioritizing Argentina’s interests over those of America’s farmers.

Last month, the U.S. agreed to $20 billion currency swap agreement, which allows Argentina to exchange pesos for U.S. dollars. As part of such an agreement, the country must “activate” the swap to draw on the funds.

“We have US$20 billion of credit, and they have credit equal to that number in pesos,” Argentine President Javier Milei explained. “It is only activated when needed.”

While not a bailout, Lemire falsely characterized it as one, which Bessent immediately shut down. He explained why this currency swap was not a bailout and pointed out that the U.S. stood to make a profit from it, which is rare in an actual bailout.

Bessne then explained that using economic strength to help out an ally pursuing sound economic policies is far better than letting them collapse.

He closed by reminding Levine that the reason the Trump Administration can’t help American farmers as much is that the Democrats shut down the government.

WATCH:

LEMIRE: How does a $20 billion bailout of Argentina help Americans…Can you explain to those here, America’s farmers, why the United States is helping out Argentina?

BESSENT: Do you know what a swap line is?”

LEMIRE: It’s a currency swap. Yes.

BESSENT: What is that?

LEMIRE: You’re the treasury secretary.

BESSENT: Why would you call it a bailout?

LEMIRE: That is how…

BESSENT: In most bailouts, you don’t make money. The US government made money.

We used our financial balance sheet to stabilize the government (Argentina), one of our great allies, during an election.

The government’s going to make money, and I would rather use peace through economic strength than have to shoot at narco boats coming offshore after a government collapse.

So, by stabilizing the economy and making a profit, that’s a very good deal for the American people.

There’s a lot we could have been doing for American farmers. But Democrats closed the government.
