White House announces Kamala Harris’s agenda for nationwide tour in 2024

The White House shared a video of Vice President Kamala Harris announcing her plans for 2024, which will include touring the United States in support of abortion rights.

Harris’s tour, titled the Fight for Our Reproductive Freedoms tour, will begin in Wisconsin on Jan. 22, the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which the Supreme Court overturned in 2022. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, abortion rights have become a major focus for the Democratic Party, likely playing a major factor in the party’s victories in recent elections.

“There is a full-on attack in our country against the ability of people to just make decisions about their own body and their life,” Harris said. “So join me. I will see you soon and take care.”

Beyond Wisconsin on Jan. 22, other dates and locations have yet to be revealed, though the White House has stated that other locations will be revealed “soon.”

Harris hitting the road in the first month of 2024 comes ahead of next year’s presidential election, in which she and President Joe Biden are running for reelection. Despite experiencing numerous setbacks, former President Donald Trump is still leading the Republican primary race, setting the stage for a possible rematch between him and Biden.

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, Democrats have focused on securing abortion rights in the United States, which seems to be an effective strategy when looking at recent election results. In the 2022 midterm election, an expected red wave for the Republican Party failed to materialize, and the Virginia state midterm elections in 2023 brought about disappointing results for the state Republican Party.

Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, a recent poll from Emerson College found that 44% of voters under 30 years old stated that the economy is the most important issue the country is currently facing, while just 14% said that healthcare is the most important. A separate poll from the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School found that many young voters are not as enthusiastic about voting in 2024 compared to previous elections, though such voters said they would still prefer voting for Biden over Trump.
