White House defends leaving Hunter Biden off Air Force One and Marine One manifestos

The White House has stood by its decision to exclude Hunter Biden from the Air Force One and Marine One passenger manifestos it shares with reporters.

“That’s something that we’ve never done,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Tuesday about providing a list of family members traveling on Marine One. “This is the family. The family gets to travel with the president, and that’s been the case with every other president. And so it’s not something that we’ve done or we would be doing moving forward.”

Jean-Pierre dismissed speculation President Joe Biden and the White House were hiding Hunter Biden by not disclosing his presence on the plane and aircraft as the first family returned from Delaware, and that it was a misuse of taxpayers’ money. The family was in Delaware last weekend to mark the anniversary of the 1972 car crash that killed Biden’s first wife, Neilia, and their then-1-year-old daughter Naomi. Neilia Biden is Hunter’s mother.

The press secretary reiterated that Joe Biden loves his son and referred reporters to Hunter’s attorneys for answers regarding his legal entanglements amid two indictments over federal tax and gun crimes.

“As it relates to the past couple of days, as I just stated to your colleague, is that the president and [his] family were obviously, it was a somber anniversary that they were recognizing,” Jean-Pierre said. “So you can imagine what that is like for them.”

Hunter Biden defied a congressional subpoena last week to be deposed behind closed doors by the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees as the panels participate in the now-formal impeachment inquiry into his father. The younger Biden had told lawmakers he would only appear before them in a public setting.

“They belittled my recovery, and they have tried to dehumanize me, all to embarrass my father, who has devoted his entire life to public service,” Hunter Biden said. “For six years, I have been a target of the unrelenting Trump attack team. ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here’s my answer. I am here.”
