White House: Hunter Biden spoke ‘from the heart’ as he defied congressional subpoena

The White House is sidestepping questions about President Joe Biden‘s son Hunter defying a congressional subpoena to testify about his business dealings as part of the House Republican impeachment inquiry.

“I’m just not gonna speak to that,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Wednesday. “I’m just gonna have you speak to the White House Counsel on this.”

HUNTER BIDEN DODGES HOUSE DEPOSITION BUT SHOWS UP IN DC AS GOP THREATENS CONTEMPT VOTE

Jean-Pierre confirmed that the president was “certainly familiar” with what Hunter Biden was going to say during a press conference outside the Capitol on Wednesday morning, coinciding with when he was supposed to appear before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees behind closed doors.

However, the press secretary did not confirm whether the older Biden was involved in drafting his son’s statement. The younger Biden declined to participate in the deposition unless he was permitted to do so in public, opening him up to a potential contempt of Congress proceedings.

“I think what you saw was from the heart from his son,” Jean-Pierre said. “When it comes to the president, the first lady, they are proud of him continuing to rebuild his life. They are proud of their son.”

House Republicans are poised to vote Wednesday evening on whether to formally commence an impeachment inquiry after starting informal proceedings last fall.

“The only, single fact in this entire sham impeachment exercise is that it’s a nakedly transparent ploy by House MAGA Republicans to boost Donald Trump’s presidential campaign,” Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler wrote in a lengthy memo this week. “The only branch of government MAGA Republicans control is following through on Donald Trump’s promise to use the levers of government to enact political retribution on his enemies. You know, like the followers of a dictator.”
