White House scrambles to defend Bidenomics as polls flag

The White House defended its economic record in the face of a new poll showing an increasing number of voters souring on the president’s handling of the economy.

The poll released by Fox News showed 46% of voters saying that the Biden “administration’s policies have hurt them,” with two-thirds of respondents believing the economy will get “worse next year.” Despite this, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated that “Bidenomics is indeed working” when confronted with the poll.

“The last few years have been challenging for the American people. We know that,” Jean-Pierre told reporters at Tuesday’s briefing. “Coming out of the pandemic, when the president walked into this administration, the economy was in a tailspin, it was, and so the president did everything that he can to make sure that we get this economy back on track.”

“We understand that Americans, you know, feel like things are still unaffordable. We get that, and that is something that the president has said himself very recently,” she continued.

Jean-Pierre proceeded to criticize Republicans for voting against the president’s Inflation Reduction Act and additionally repeal clauses of the law that lowered healthcare costs for households.

“There are historical actions that the president has taken, that has shown, the data shows that the economy is in a better place, but I understand — we understand that Americans don’t feel it right now,” she concluded. “That’s why we’re going to continue to talk about junk fees and making sure that that is something that we deal with right, making sure that we’re beating Big Pharma and lowering drug costs for Americans, so there are ways that we’re going to continue to make sure that the No. 1 thing when it comes to Bidenomics that the president deals, with lowering costs, we’re going to put that front and center.”

Biden is slated to travel to Milwaukee on Wednesday, where White House officials say he plans to prop up small businesses as a core “pillar” of his economic platform.

The White House claims that the president’s policies are responsible for a “record” 14 million applications “for people wanting to start a small business.”
