Wisconsin Supreme Court race may not be indicator of Trump agenda: Byron York – Washington Examiner

The Washington Examiner‘s chief political correspondent, Byron York, expressed skepticism about the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, specifically whether it could properly gauge the public’s feelings about President Donald Trump‘s leadership over the last two months.

Tuesday’s election, which will pit Republican Brad Schimel against Democrat Susan Crawford for the state’s Supreme Court, has garnered national attention as Wisconsin voters head to the ballot box after witnessing “a very, very eventful couple of months” under Trump’s leadership. York assessed that analysts are looking to this election in a battleground state to see how Trump’s actions are settling with voters, regardless of whether or not this is a “fair” assessment.

“I’m not sure if these are great tests,” York said on Fox News’s America Reports. “Wisconsin is very close, of course. Trump won Wisconsin by less than one point, and we’ve had these battles in Wisconsin before, and I’m not sure that either result, the Republican winning or the Democratic winning in this so-called nonpartisan contest, not sure that either result would tell us a whole lot about Trump.”

However, one factor that could be an indicator is how the Democratic Party has sought to “villainize” Elon Musk, a Trump ally, ahead of this election. As such, York said it could be worth checking with voters after the election to see whether the Democratic Party’s attempt swayed any voters.

If the Democratic Party is victorious in this election, it would encourage them. York noted that this election is largely about Democrats redistricting and paving the way for the party to have some extra votes in the House.

“So look, it’s a state Supreme Court race. It’s not like the president of the United States, but it certainly would encourage Democrats, even if they win by a little bit,” York said.

WISCONSIN CATHOLIC CHARITIES CASE IS MORE PROOF OF ANTI-CHRISTIAN SENTIMENT

Schimel and Crawford have made last-minute efforts to sway voters, with Trump also advocating the former. The president deemed Schimel’s opponent as “a Liberal Lunatic” who would drive Wisconsin and the nation “into TOTAL CHAOS.”

Ahead of the election, Wisconsin’s Supreme Court unanimously rejected an effort by Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul to block Musk from handing out two million-dollar checks at a Green Bay rally. This came as Musk and the groups he supports have spent more than $20 million to help Schimel get elected.
