A woman fatally shot a man Sunday inside a Compton beauty store after he allegedly groped another woman and threatened to kill customers, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred around 3:21 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in an Oct. 20 press release. The male, unidentified, followed a woman inside the beauty store, where he allegedly groped her. When employees requested that he leave the store, the male allegedly became increasingly verbally abusive, throwing and damaging merchandise. Both employees and customers noted the male had an object they believed to be a knife in his hand.
The male then allegedly verbally threatened to kill everyone in the store. Fearful for everyone’s safety, another female customer used her firearm to give the male a warning. When he turned toward her, the woman feared she was going to be attacked and fired a second shot, which struck the male, according to the same press release.
The district attorney’s office will decide whether or not to charge the woman in connection with the shooting, ABC 7 reported. The store’s employees said the entire alleged incident was captured by the security system, according to the outlet.
According to a video report from CBS News, the 42-year-old male may have gang ties and purportedly has a criminal history that includes assault, robbery, theft, and disturbing the peace. (RELATED: Funeral Home Worker Dies After Scene Straight Out Of Horror Film)
Melody Johnson, a regular customer at the beauty store, reacted to the incident, telling CBS News she’s “glad nobody else got hurt.”
“I’m glad nobody else got hurt, but, um, for [someone] to walk in here and have a weapon, that’s concerning. That’s awful that that happened here in this community,” she said.
An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, according to the same press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
