Zuckerberg praises Trump after shooting but keeps endorsement cards close to his chest – Washington Examiner

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg praised former President Donald Trump in an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday, remarking that the former president’s actions in the wake of his attempted assassination were “bada**.”

Despite the words for Trump, Zuckerberg declined to endorse him or President Joe Biden — unlike another Silicon Valley tech magnate, Elon Musk, who did endorse the former president.

“Seeing Donald Trump get up after getting shot in the face and pump his fist in the air with the American flag is one of the most bada** things I’ve ever seen in my life,” he told the news outlet.

“On some level as an American, it’s like hard to not get kind of emotional about that spirit and that fight, and I think that that’s why a lot of people like the guy,” Meta’s CEO said.

Zuckerberg said that he’s “not planning” on being involved in the election in any way and has tried to make changes to Facebook so that people “see less political content” on their timelines.

“The main thing that I hear from people is that they actually want to see less political content on our services because they come to our services to connect with people,” he said. Facebook is already recommending less political content to its users, he added. “I think you’re going to see our services play less of a role in this election than they have in the past.”

Zuckerberg’s praise comes as a slight surprise, given Trump’s negative comments on Facebook in the past. Trump called Facebook “the enemy of the people” in March and seemingly hasn’t forgiven the company for suspending him from Meta platforms Facebook and Instagram after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Trump has also shifted his rhetoric in favor of TikTok, a direct competitor to Zuckerberg’s company, but the CEO said, “That’s above my pay grade,” when asked if the company should be banned.

Zuckerberg is ultimately taking a much less hard-line stance on Trump than X owner Musk, who not only endorsed the former president but plans to give millions to his presidential campaign.
