Gov. Janet Mills (D-ME) launched online resources on Saturday to support the families affected by the shootings in Lewiston, Maine, that killed 18 people and injured 13. The initiative is accepting donations for victims, families, first responders, and responding organizations who have been impacted by the mass shooting.
“In the face of great tragedy and difficulty, it is a hallmark of Maine people to come together to love and support one another,” Mills stated on the internet resource Healing Together. “To that end, I know many people right now are asking, ‘How can I help?’ I encourage Maine people to use and share our ‘Healing Together’ website as a resource to support the families of the victims and the greater Lewiston community as we begin the long and difficult process of healing.”

Maine officials announced Robert Card, the suspect wanted in connection with Wednesday’s shooting, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday evening. Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck said his body was discovered by state police at 7:45 p.m. Friday in a recycling trailer in Lisbon.
“Like many people, I’m breathing a sigh of relief tonight, knowing that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone,” Mills said during a Friday evening press conference. Mills said she spoke with President Joe Biden and a number of Maine lawmakers to confirm Card is deceased.

The Mills Administration launched a website with multiple resources to support the community’s recovery. The web page links several donation spots, including the Central Maine Medical Center Compassionate Care Fund, established to assist with the costs of patient care. The Maine Community Foundation created the Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund to “address current and emerging needs” in connection to the shooting. The City of Lewiston created the OneLewiston donation portal and is taking cash donations at multiple Androscoggin Bank locations.
In addition to encouraging donations, the Mills Administration linked a website created by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services for those who are struggling mentally with the tragedy.
