A CVS in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington is keeping its doors open despite constant pillaging that leaves nothing on its shelves.
Footage of the empty shelves at the 14th Street location has gone viral on social media.
ALL THE THING THE HOUSE CAN’T DO WITHOUT A SPEAKER
The only items stocked are those that are locked up. When asked what gets stolen the most, employees laughed and said “everything,” according to a report.
Gangs of 45 children raid the CVS daily before school, after school, and later in the evening, taking anything they can grab off the shelves, the report noted.
They take chips and drinks, and they throw food on the ground and stomp on it, employees said.
“It makes me not want to shop there, to be honest,” one Columbia Heights resident said. “I go and get my prescription, and then, when I need other things, I go elsewhere … because there’s nothing there to get.”
The criminals ransacking the CVS are aware of when new shipments arrive, and that is when they are most likely to target the store, according to staff.
Vendors who fill the streets of Columbia Heights are allegedly paying the thieves to rob the location so they can resell the items.
Toothbrushes, bathing products, car fresheners, cleaning supplies, and laundry detergent can be found among the vendors’ goods for sale, according to the report.

Despite the destruction of the store, residents attempted to justify the pillaging.
“A lot of folks can’t afford any of the things in there,” according to one resident. “I’m not saying that stealing has to be the solution to that. However, I don’t know. Maybe if the city could provide more resources to unhoused or under-income folks that can provide them like hair care, bodily care, hygiene care. … That could be an option.”
