House Republicans announced Thursday they subpoenaed three banks for records of President Joe Biden‘s son Hunter and brother James, marking the first time the GOP has issued legal orders for broad personal financial information of the president’s immediate family members.
The subpoenas, signed by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), requested both personal and business bank records of Hunter and James Biden, as well as records for Eric Schwerin, Hunter Biden’s former business partner.

“From day one of our investigation of Joe Biden’s abuse of public office, we’ve followed the money and that continues with today’s subpoenas,” Comer said in a statement.
He added, “Bank records don’t lie, and couple with witness testimony, they reveal that Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain.”
Comer first previewed he would issue the subpoenas last week, soon after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) verbally launched an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden over allegations he abused his authority when he was vice president for personal financial gain.
