Several Hollywood actors, sports stars, and politicians responded to the mass shooting in Maine that left 18 dead, calling for action and gun control.

Following the Sacramento Kings’ win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, Kings head coach Mike Brown was shaken by the breaking news of the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, and used the postgame press conference to share a response.

“I don’t even want to talk about basketball,” Brown told reporters. “We played a game. It was fun. Obviously, we won, but if we can’t do anything to fix this, it’s over. It’s over for our country for this to happen time after time.”

He continued: “It’s a sad day. It’s a sad day for our country. It’s a sad day in this world. And until we decide to do something about it, the powers that be, this is going to keep happening. And our kids are not going to be able to enjoy what the United States is about because we don’t know how to fix a problem that’s right in front of us.”

Brown called the mass shooting “absolutely disgusting” and urged Congress to take action.

“We, as a country, have to do something,” Brown said. “That is absolutely disgusting. And it’s sad. And it’s sad that we sit here and watch this happen time after time after time after time, and no one does anything about it.”

Star Trek actor George Takei slammed Republicans in Congress.

“A reminder as we wake up to the news of another mass shooting: One party’s members walk around Congress with AR-15 pins on their lapels. They aren’t there to help solve the gun violence crisis. They are there to help enable it,” Takei said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Actress Mia Farrow reposted Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) social media post calling for gun control in Maine.

“We need immediate action — we cannot sit around and wait for Congress. We need to amend the Constitution to help prevent tragedies like this,” Newsom said.

Republicans in Maine rejected a bill this year that would have required a waiting period for firearm purchases.

They seriously could not fathom waiting 72 hours to buy a gun.

“This sick maniac warned he was going to do this and authorities released him anyway. Our justice system sucks,” Sorbo said.

As of Thursday afternoon, a manhunt continued for Robert Card, who is a U.S. Army reservist and a suspect in the shootings that took place at a bowling alley and restaurant in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday evening.
