Scalise surpasses $10 million in fundraising during 2024 cycle after record-breaking November

EXCLUSIVE — House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) raised a record-high $1.5 million in November, surpassing $10 million in online grassroots contributions so far in the 2024 cycle.

Last month’s haul was raised by more than 40,000 donors and marks the best off-year November that Scalise’s digital mobilization program has ever recorded, according to numbers provided to the Washington Examiner by the majority leader’s office. Each of the contributions goes toward supporting GOP candidates in key races as well as bolstering national efforts to ensure Republicans maintain their House majority next year.

“On the heels of our new joint fundraising commitment to Defend Our Majority, this grassroots milestone has once again proven House Majority Leader Steve Scalise as a fundraising powerhouse — not just with major donors but with grassroots donors as well,” Tyler Daniel, Scalise political director, said in a statement. “A dollar raised is a vote secured, and with such a narrow majority, it’s critical we have the grassroots in our corner. This was our best off-year November in program history and we’re continuing to pick up steam.”

The haul builds on other significant fundraising numbers reported by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) last week, helping to ease concerns among Republicans who feared the GOP would lose its fundraising prowess in the aftermath of Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ouster as the party’s leader.

Shortly after McCarthy’s ouster, several GOP leaders wondered aloud how the party would move on from the California Republican’s leadership, specifically noting his work traveling across the country to campaign on other candidates’ behalf.

McCarthy himself acknowledged his fundraising strength as a loss for House Republicans in the wake of his removal, citing it as a reason Democrats didn’t step in to save his speakership.

That means GOP leaders have a lot to live up to, as McCarthy’s campaign raised more than 20 times what Johnson hauled in for the 2022 and 2024 cycles so far. In the second quarter, McCarthy hauled in $21.7 million for House Republicans and raised $15.3 million in the last quarter as speaker.
