Kelly McGowan, the principal of Belmont Hills Elementary School in Bucks County, spent the night on the school’s roof on Thursday after losing a bet related to fundraising efforts.
The wager revolved around a fundraising campaign organized by the Belmont Hills Parent-Teacher Group, which aimed to secure donations for new playground equipment at the school. Over four weeks, the group managed to amass $25,000 in donations, according to Fox News. Cornwells Fire Department used a fire bucket truck to assist in lifting McGowan to the school roof so she could honor her end of the bet. Before her ascent, students and staff were commended for their dedicated fundraising efforts, an event held on the school’s lawn. Equipped with supplies for an overnight stay on the roof, McGowan took her place on the fire truck, where firefighters facilitated her ascent to the spot, according to Fox News.
As a result of the successful fundraising campaign, the school is on track for new playground equipment by the winter of 2024.
