Former Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard slammed President Joe Biden for falsely claiming that he had been at ground zero in New York City the day after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Biden made the claim during a speech on Monday honoring the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people. Gabbard criticized the president for his misstatements on various occasions, saying that Biden thinks people are stupid and will accept whatever he says as truth, while speaking on Fox News’s Fox and Friends on Tuesday.

“It’s almost like he feels like if he just says things that they are true and thinking that we’re so stupid as just to sit back and believe what he says when, in reality, we can see that the opposite is actually very true,” Gabbard said.

Biden did visit the site of the World Trade Center later in September 2001 as part of a Senate delegation, but he was in Washington, D.C., the day after the terrorist attacks.

The former congresswoman also criticized the Biden administration for not telling Congress about the prisoner swap deal with Iran until the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and condemned Biden for not visiting any of the sites on the anniversary.

“This administration, unfortunately, has a bad track record of putting the interest of the American people and our national security first. So those are the foremost concerns that I have on this,” Gabbard said. “But especially not informing Congress until the 22nd anniversary of 9/11, on a date where the president decided not to show up at any of the sites that were attacked on 9/11. Basically turning his back on all of the families who lost loved ones, turning his back on our fellow Americans, people like you and I, who are motivated to join the military because of 9/11.”

“And then to go and deliver this speech in Alaska that I personally found many parts of it to be quite offensive. Where he chose to lecture the American people, saying ‘you all, we all have a responsibility to defend democracy,’ that ‘we have to stand united.’ This is coming from a guy who has done nothing but divide America since the day that he took office. And as he is telling us we have to defend democracy, we, Americans, while he and his administration are doing everything they possibly can to undermine our democracy and undermine our fundamental freedoms that are enshrined in the Constitution. The hypocrisy is deafening,” Gabbard said.

The prisoner swap that the Biden administration announced on Monday would release five Americans detained in Iran in exchange for the United States unfreezing $6 billion in frozen funds.
